ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have completed a deal with the Florida Marlins for infielder Jorge Cantu.
The Rangers are sending Minor League pitchers Evan Reed (currently at Double-A Frisco) and Omar Poveda (currently on the 60-day DL due to Tommy John surgery) to Florida, with the Marlins picking up a large portion of Cantu's salary.

Cantu will give the Rangers a right-handed bat who can play both corner infield spots. The Rangers were looking for a right-handed-hitting complement or platoon partner with Chris Davis.
The Rangers also called up Mitch Moreland, another left-handed-hitting first baseman, to replace Ian Kinsler, who was placed on the disabled list Thursday with a strained left groin muscle. Either Davis or Moreland will have to be returned to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room for Cantu.
